LA CROSSE, Wis. – The only thing hotter than the warm game-time temperature was the Knights’ offensive attack as the Carleton College men’s soccer team rolled to a 10-0 victory over Viterbo University on Sunday afternoon.

Eight Knights found their way onto the scoresheet, including two-goal performances for seniors Jared Johnson (Whitefish, Mont./Whitefish) and William Lanzillo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West).

Alvin Bierley (So./Santa Cruz, Calif./Leland) secured what would prove to be the game winner in the sixth minute. Senior Adam Pearson (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) converted a 19th-minute penalty kick to tally his second career goal.

Lanzillo, Trevor Freeland (Sr./DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb), and Walter Williamson (So./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) also contributed goals in the opening period to give Carleton a 5-0 advantage at the break.

After intermission, Marco da Cunha (Fy./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University), Lanzillo, and Kohl Sparrman (Sr./Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) added tallies before Johnson capped the scoring with two goals mid-way through the second half.

The beneficiary of the offensive support was goalkeeper Erik Hansen (Jr./Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton), who notched his first career shutout.

Carleton visits Crown College for a primetime matchup on Thursday, Sept. 20 in St. Bonifacius.
