ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Although the match started nearly two-and-a-half hours late due to lightning in the area, the Carleton College men’s soccer team showed no ill effects of the delay in notching a 5-0 victory at Crown College.

Spencer Weeden (Jr./Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) gave the visitors the early lead, scoring his second game of the year by finishing off a pass from Tashi Tsering (Sr./Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) in the sixth minute.

Carleton (5-1-0) kept the Crown defense under pressure throughout the first half, but goalkeeper Foster Browning prevented the deficit from widening with several impressive first-half saves. The Knights turned the pressure up even more after intermission, however, and were rewarded with four more goals.

Tarek Bos-Shadi’s (So./Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) second goal of the season came in the 52nd minute following a corner kick delivery by senior defender Mark Roth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township). William Lanzillo (Sr./Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) added his team-best third goal of the campaign following a successful give-and-go with David Rubin (So./Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) in the 62nd minute.

Roth notched his first career goal—an unassisted tally—in the 66th minute, and Trevor Freeland (Sr./DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) capped the scoring with his 68th minute tally, on which Lanzillo was credited with the assist.

Aaron Forman (So./Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) and Erik Hansen (Jr./Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) split the work in goal as the Knights recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

Carleton hosts Macalester College for a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 22. The women’s game begins at 1 p.m., while the men’s contest is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start. Knights Online will feature live video/stats of both contests.
