NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a hard-fought 1-0 result to visiting Luther College. Knights’ goalkeeper Brandon Hilliard (Jr./Anoka, Minn./Totino Grace) registered eight saves, the second-highest total of his collegiate career.
The Knights dodged a bullet when Lucas Beato misfired on a penalty kick in the 29th minute, but were not as fortunate two minutes later when Luther’s Matheus Beato collected a loose ball in the box and slotted a shot just inside the near post.
Overall, the Norse (2-0-0) held a 16-7 advantage in shots, but the margin was just 7-6 in favor of the visitors over the final period.
The two teams were whistled for a combined 22 fouls, and five cautions were issued on the day.
Carleton (1-1-0) will be right back in action on Sunday, Sept. 4 for a 4 p.m. affair against North Central (Ill.) College. Knights Online will provide live video/stats.
