NORTHFIELD, Minn. – After opening the campaign with four consecutive shutout victories, the Carleton College men’s soccer team absorbed its first setback of 2017, falling to visiting Simpson College, 2-1 in overtime.
Stephen Baisch (Sr./Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) put the hosts in front with his first career goal, finishing off a service in the seventh minute from Mark Roth (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township).
The Knights saw their season-opening shutout streak snapped at 426:08 when Garrett Pochop, the reigning IIAC offensive MVP, ran down a longball and took a low-angle shot from the right wing. That attempt struck the far post and deflected into the net.
Both sides had quality chances in the later moments of regulation before Pochop tallied the game winner eight minutes into the first overtime.
Carleton will re-group and prepare to host Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. Knights Online will provide live video and stats.
