About the Program

Maria Wetzel, Women's Swimming action, 2016

Maria Wetzel earned All-America Honorable Mention in the 200-yard backstroke at the 2015 NCAA Championships.

Maria Wetzel ’17 made her second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships in 2016, continuing the Knights' trend of success at the national level. Since 1999, Carleton has had swimmers advance to the NCAA Championships in 16 of the last 18 seasons. Over that span, team members have won 9 national titles, turned in 27 All-America performances, and received All-America Honorable Mention 33 additional times

Over the last 18 seasons, Carleton captured three titles at the MIAC Championships (2000, 2001, and 2009) as well as eight second-place finishes in the team competition. The Knights have captured 75 conference event titles and contributed 176 individual All-MIAC performances plus 64 All-MIAC relay swims. Seven of the last 14 MIAC Swimmers-of-the-Year have competed for the Knights.

The Knights have been impressive in the classroom as well, as Carleton has earned Scholar All-American honors for 23 consecutive years. Six different Knights earned Academic All-Conference honors following the 2016 season.
