University of Michigan Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP)

PREP is a one-year program designed to help participants strengthen their candidacy for admission to the nation’s strongest biomedical sciences Ph.D. programs.  PREP is part of the training efforts of the NIH’s Diversity in the Biomedical Workforce initiative and is supported by the NIH Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity.  U-M PREP encourages applications from underrepresented minorities who hold a recent baccalaureate degree in a field related to biomedical sciences that are interested in pursuing a research doctorate.  For more information on participant eligibility and how to apply, visit https://medicine.umich.edu/medschool/education/non-degree-programs/postbac-research-education-program-prep.  Applications will be accepted until March 25, 2016.

Summer Research Opportunity

>>Franciscan-AbbVie, Biochemistry
This internship, now in its 6th year, is designed to give research opportunities to undergraduates at small universities.  It will give students a chance to experience the pharmaceutical industry in a unique and fulfilling way that is both humanitarian and educational.  Eligible students have or will have completed a full year of organic chemistry by summer 2016.  Preference will be given to chemistry majors interested in graduate school or industry, but the internship is not limited to those students.  Each intern will receive a $2,500 stipend, plus housing and essential transportation, for the summer.  Interns are responsible for transportation to and from Chicago.  For more information, visit http://www.franciscan.edu/fiwh/internship/.

Update:  As a result of the emergence of the health crisis related to the Zika virus, they now also have a biochemistry summer internship opportunity for one student at AbbVie for the summer of 2016.  The application deadline has been extended to February 29, 2016 for this new biochemistry opportunity.
