Casa de Esperanza Residential Care
October 16, 2018 at 1:17 pmCasa de Esperanza provides residential care to children birth through six who are in crisis due to abuse, neglect, or the effects of HIV. Care is provided in the neighborhood by the Hands of Hope interns. The interns, most of whom are recent college graduates, join for a year of service (a twelve-month full-time post-graduation internship). On-site housing is provided (interns live with the children they are caring for) and interns join from all over the United States to be part of the internship program. The lab manager will work with SPARQ staff, faculty affiliates, and practitioner-partners to support social psychological research that both creates new knowledge and solves social problems. Ongoing projects include: Respectful Policing, a partnership to improve officer-citizen interactions; Space Reface, a partnership with the Stanford engineering and computer science departments to design physical spaces that promote belonging for women and people of color; and Barriers to Economic Agency, a partnership with the World Bank to boost economic interventions with cultural insights.
Hands of Hope Internship
March 6, 2018 at 9:55 amHands of Hope is Casa de Esperanza’s internship program which recruits recent college graduates and other highly qualified young adults, from throughout the United States. These interns have a desire to help abused, neglected and HIV positive children through work with our agency. This program brings together approximately 25 young adults annually to live and work with some of our society’s most vulnerable children. The Residential Program is the backbone of Casa de Esperanza, and at its core are the Hands of Hope Interns. Hands of Hope Interns commit one year to live and work with these vulnerable children in the Residential Program’s agency foster homes. Responsibilities include daily care of the children, household management, and the coordination of medical appointments and therapy sessions. The Hands of Hope Interns also work with caseworkers, psychological staff and community volunteers on a routine basis to ensure that the children in placement receive the highest quality of care.
