A statement to the Carleton community
June 1, 2020I reach out to the Carleton community in a time of torment.
Last week’s police brutality that murdered a Black man, George Floyd, is outrageous and terrifying. It has added another layer of fear, pain, and outrage to our senses, which are already battered by a global pandemic whose impact falls disproportionately on the poor, the disadvantaged, Black and African-American communities, and other persons of color.
Bridge Work
September 6, 2019Carleton’s 2012 strategic plan calls for the college to “embrace collaborative opportunities with other institutions to enhance our academic program and save costs.” We have done this, and for good reason.
Every Carl for Carleton
February 7, 2019In October we publicly launched Every Carl for Carleton, a fund-raising campaign with a goal of $400 million. A successful campaign will provide additional scholarship dollars for students with financial need, help us build a new interdisciplinary science facility, support faculty members as they develop new courses and research opportunities for students, and allow Carleton to keep faith with its graduates as we prepare students for life after Carleton.

A Smart Investment
August 23, 2017You’re likely to find backhoes and construction workers on the Carleton campus every summer. But this year we’re particularly busy as we begin to implement the first phase of the Utilities Master Plan, approved by the trustees this past fall.
Choices That Define Us
November 11, 2016Three critical choices made in Carleton’s early years have resulted in the superb institution we know today.
View from the Top
November 11, 2016“College is just the beginning of a joyful mission. One can always go on learning. And it seems to me that Carleton faculty members have kept that joy present at Carleton.”
Hard Conversations
August 2, 2016Carleton spent much of the past academic year holding a series of small-scale, candid conversations led by trained facilitators about key topics of concern to our community.
A 10-Year Plan
January 18, 2013Work in Process
May 3, 2011At Carleton, we’re soon to begin a strategic planning process that will help us set priorities among a variety of good outcomes. It will put the College in a position of strength as the economy improves and will let us test our goals within a realistic financial envelope.
