September 15th, 2010 (Fall Term)

March 20, 2011 at 5:36 pm

Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting last week and also to anyone who
volunteered at the activities fair and/or the block party. Here are the minutes
from last week and don't forget about this week's meeting - same time, same
place!

  1. Membership - To be an active member (so that you can run for a position and
vote), you must attend at least 3/4 of the meetings. (You can look up more
details in the Constitution on the BSA website). Attendance will be taken at
    every meeting.
  2. PR Position - We voted and the majority decided that there will be a new
Public Relations officer Board position. If you'd like to run, your platform is
due to JP or me by this Sunday night (the 26th). Elections will take place at
the meeting next week (the 29th).
  3. Freshmen Rep - Any freshmen interested in running for Freshmen Rep also need
to submit their platform by the 26th and elections will be on the 29th.
  4. Freshmen Social - There will be a Freshmen Social this weekend in the Cassat
Basement. Everyone is welcome but we especially want a lot of freshmen to come
so we can get to know each other while eating ice cream and crepes! (We will
have more info about the exact time soon).
  5. Foozball Tournament - We will host a foozball tournament during 5th weekend
in order to raise money for the White Privilege Conference in the spring. We
passed around a sign-up sheet for planning but let JP or I know if you didn't
sign up but still want to help!
  6. Sunday Dinners - Freedom House will be hosting Sunday dinners on Oct. 24th
and Nov. 7th. There will be lots of delicious food and we can sign up for what
we will make closer to those dates.
  7. Poetry Weekend - We voted to arrange a Poetry Weekend for 9th weekend. On
that Friday night we will bring in a poet from the Cities, and on Saturday we
will have a poetry workshop with Carleton faculty and then an opportunity to
perform what we've written/open mic night. Contact JP if you want to help plan this big event!

Other things to keep in mind:

  • We hope to collaborate with CUBE (St. Olaf's BSA) this year, and we'll
probably alternate hosting events each term.
  • "Sustainability at Carleton" discussion at the OIIL office - I'm hoping to
lead an informal discussion about ways to participate in environmentalism at
Carleton and answer any questions you may have about getting involved.
Hopefully this will take place next week, so watch for the weekly OIIL e-mails.
    There will be snacks!
  • Contact Robin or Jewel if you're interested in helping with the Multicultural
    Senior Celebration in the spring.

Have a great 2nd week!
