is what these BSA minutes are!

  1. MLK Chapel Service - This Sunday (the 16th) at 5! President Poskanzer will be doing a welcome, the Jubilee Singers will perform, and a soup dinner will follow the service, so you definitely want to be there! (See e-mail attachment if you still want to join Jubilee - it's not too late!)
  2. MLK Celebration Dinner - This Monday (the 17th) at 5:15 in the Goodhue Superlounge. RSVP is required; sign up on the OIIL website soon as space is running out!
  3. Diversity Institute: White Privilege - OIIL is sponsoring this workshop on Saturday, Jan. 22nd from 9-4:30 in the Great Hall; meals will be provided. This is a good opportunity to become familiar with white privilege, especially if you are interested in attending the conference in the spring. Again, sign up on the OIIL website.
  4. T-shirts - Will be dark purple with charcoal grey lettering. We are still looking for a theme; possible suggestions so far include perserverance, or turning theory into practice. We're really hoping to vote on a design at the next meeting, so try and send us any of your ideas before then!
  5. Black History Month - Some events we'll probably have are a photo exposition in Freedom House and playing a different type of black music each week in Sayles. We've also reserved banner space to promote awareness of black history or issues in the black community, so let us know if you have ideas for these banners, as well as events!
  6. Crepe Sale - Will be held during 6th or 7th week to raise money for the White Privilege Conference.
  7. BSA's Afternoon of Fun - Will be held the afternoon of Jan. 29th (the Sat. of 4th weekend). Games, karaoke, and more!
  8. We Speak - Will be held Friday, Feb. 25th. Start planning your performances!
  9. Black History Month Chapel Service - Will be held Sunday, Feb. 27th.
  10. From the Inside Out - Mouhamadou and Sarah Prather lead this discussion group every other week (even weeks). Tomorrow (Thursday) in the OIIL Lounge at 7:30 they'll be addressing the question: Does Carleton have our backs? Stop by and share your thoughts!
  11. Science Fellow Application - Is due this Friday (the 14th). The application is for funding for science research and can be found online; contact Catrice if you have questions.
  12. Concert for Haiti - Is going on NOW (until 11 PM) in the Cave. There is live music, so stop by and show your support - donations welcome!
  13. Reckless Tortuga - JP encouraged us to check out these videos online addressing racism. He claims they're funny, so find out for yourself!
  14. Discussion Topic - We started off talking about why minority groups don't unite to fight oppression very often, and we ended up having a great conversation about the importance of race in our own lives. Ideas for future topics? Let us know!

See you all at 4 on Friday in the Chapel for Jubilee practice, Sunday at 5 for the MLK Service, Monday at 5:15 for the MLK Dinner, and next week at 7 for the meeting! Whew!
