BSA Minutes 2/9/11

If you want a t-shirt - E-MAIL ROBERT (millsr) ASAP!!! Tell him your name and size and we can make sure we get them by We Speak. They're purple with charcoal grey writing, have an image of a mountain climber on them + a quote by W.E.B. Du Bois, and will cost about $12 (but don't worry about paying right now).
Here's what else we talked about:

  1. We Speak - Will be Friday, February 25th at 8 in the Concert Hall. We're still looking for a few acts, so if you'd like to perform or know of somebody/group that could perform, let us know! There will be a rehearsal on Saturday the 19th (and optional practice time on stage during the week leading up to We Speak); we're trying to really make this run smoothly and efficiently!
  2. Crepe Sayles - (No pun intended). We'll be selling crepes next week - 7th WEEK - in Sayles on W-F, 12-1! Let us know if you want to help out, or stop by and show your support by buying one (or more!)
  3. TOMORROW - In Sayles, Ray will be tabling and playing music from the Harlem Renaissance era + jazz. Stop by and check it out!
  4. Banner! - We have banner space in Sayles reserved every weekend in February. We're trying to figure out what to put on this weekend's banner (stats about minority students at Carleton, current issue in the black community, etc.), so let Ray know by tomorrow night - THURSDAY - if you have a suggestion!
  5. TOMORROW - In the Library Athenaeum at 4:30 there will be a talk entitled "Black Masculinities in Urban Education." Sounds interesting - I'll be there!
  6. Trio Class Act Discussion - 4:30-6 on Friday in the Parish Basement. The topic will be about how comfortable you feel when you go home. There will be delicious Sosa's as well!
  7. Spirit Week - Friday the 18th - video clips/discussion/dinner on black masculinity with MOC (more details to come); Saturday the 19th - Freedom House Exhibition - display of archival material on black history with possible guest appearance by CUBE (Olaf's BSA)!; Monday the 21st - Taste of Black Culture in Sayles (food samples/tabling, approximately 12-1); Tuesday the 22nd - video clips/discussion/dinner on black femininity (more details to come); Wednesday the 23rd - Button Day! (more details to come); Thursday the 24th - Featured music in Sayles will be contemporary; Friday the 25th - Campus-wide color day - wear purple/BSA shirt (if they're in by then) + We Speak that night!; Sunday the 27th - Black History Month Chapel Service
  8. Discussion Topic - Black History Month: Pros and Cons

(http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/todays-question/archive/2011/02/how-relevant-is-black-history-month-now.shtml)- If you get e-mails from Harry Williams, that's something he sent out - very thought-provoking.

See you all next week! Don't forget to e-mail Robert if you want a t-shirt!
