Robert Barrett began his duties at Carleton College in January 2017. He brings with him a variety of experiences, including time working with student-athletes at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.

Prior to joining Carleton, he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M University at Kingsville and worked with the Javelinas’ football, women’s tennis, and the men’s and women’s track and field programs.

Originally from Eugene, Ore., Barrett earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science 2010 from Western Oregon University and was a four-year member of the Wolves’ track and field squad, specializing in the shot put and hammer throw. He earned an NSCA Strength and Conditioning specialist certification in 2012 and completed his master's in Exercise Physiology from Eastern Michigan University in 2014.

He began his work in the strength and conditioning field as a sports performance coach at Dynamic Athlete Performance, in Canton, Mich. Barrett moved back to Oregon and was a volunteer strength and conditioning coach/assistant track and field coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College during the spring of 2013. He was an intern at Oregon State University in 2013-14, serving as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Beavers’ football, women's cross country/track and field, men's basketball, and baseball teams.

He made the cross-country move to Frostburg State (Md.) University where he served as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach from 2014-16. During this time, Barrett guided the strength and conditioning programs for the men's and women's cross country/track and field programs as well as the women's basketball and women’s lacrosse teams. He also assisted with football strength and conditioning sessions.

Barrett, his wife, Kristin, and their three children reside in Faribault, Minn.
