Rice County Health Dashboard

Community Engaged Fellowships - CCCE

Background:

Rice County Public Health would like to increase the accessibility and tracking of maternal and child health and chronic disease data for staff and the general public. Use of infographics, data dashboards and charts will help increase the comprehension of complex data.

Internship dates: June-August, flexible dates. Anticipate between 150-250 hours to complete the project.

Stipend: $2,200

Number of positions: 1

Supervisor: Sara Coulter, Clinic and Community Supervisor, Rice County Public Health

Description:

The end goal of this project is to produce two data dashboards. The first dashboard will be accessible to the public on our web page and will provide a summary of identified demographic data and health outcomes related to maternal and child health, in addition to prevalence of chronic disease in the general population.

The second dashboard will be used by the Rice county Public Health management team and may actually become more of a spreadsheet that incorporates dashboard elements to visually monitor programs and activities within Rice County Public Health (Long Term Care, Home Care, Family Child Health, Clinic and Community). This report would be used by our management team (and likely also our Quality Improvement team) for the purpose of program evaluation and monitoring.

There also will be an opportunity for the intern to present the end product to agency staff.

Qualifications:

Research and data synthesis skills. Computer skills in Excel, and web software. Ability to take data and translate it visually.

If desired by the intern, we anticipate that much of the work could be completed remotely after several in person meetings. We also expect to mutually agree on a schedule for continued contact for the duration of the project (in person, conference call, Skype etc.). Student must be able to supply his/her own laptop.

To apply: Send a resume and cover letter to Julie Bubser (jbubser@carleton.edu) by Friday, April 1st at noon. Interviews will be held on campus on Tuesday, April 5th.
