1. How can I help?

You can help in a variety of ways. At Cuts for Cancer on March 2nd, you can cut off ten inches of your hair and donate it to Locks of Love (hair stylists and bags to put the hair in will be provided). You can shave your head in support. If you choose to either donate ten inches or shave your head, get $$ pledges from your friends. You can also get a haircut and donate the money that would normally go to a haircut (recommended donation: $10) to Ted Mullins Cancer Research Fund. You can also stop by Cuts for Cancer on the day of the event and donate money there. Or, you can volunteer on the day of the event, keeping things running smoothly!

2. When is Cuts for Cancer?

Cuts for Cancer is happening on Monday, march 2nd from 9am-4pm in Severance Great Hall at Carleton.

3. How long does my hair have to be to donate it?

You must have at least 6" in a ponytail. Hair that is 6"-9" is sold to for-profit wig companies to offset Locks of Love's cost of making wigs. Hair that is 10" or longer is made directly into wigs for children with permanent or temporary hair loss.

4. Where does the donated hair go?

The donated hair goes to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that gives hair to children who have long-term or permanent hair loss.

5. Will there be professional hair stylists there?

Yes! Hair stylists from Buzz Salon, Great Clips for Hair, A. Renee, Dynamic Daze, and Amazing Styles will be at Cuts for Cancer.

6. How long will a hair cutting session be?

The hair cutting session will be 30 minutes, but if you are only getting your head shaved, it will probably take an even shorter amount of time.

7. Where does the money go to?

All monetary donations will go to the Ted Mullin Memorial Fund to advance cancer research at the University of Chicago. (Mullin was a member of the class of 2006 who died of cancer.)

8. What is Locks of Love?

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss. For more information, check out the Locks of Love website.

9. Why should I shave my head?

You should shave your head to show support and to raise awareness about cancer. Shaved heads will increase visibility. Also, if you raise the most money, you will get a prize!

10. Can I get involved if I don't want to cut my hair or give money?

Yes! You can stop by to motivate the participants and to engage in the numerous activities going on during the event.

Volunteers are also needed to help organize the event and run the event on March 2nd (checking people in, sweeping afterwards, etc.) Click on the volunteer sign up to get involved.

11. If I want to donate money, where should I make out a check?

You should make out a check to Carleton College with Cuts for Cancer in the memo line.
