About Carleton and the Global Engagement Programs
In February 2016, Carleton College took over operation of study abroad programs in Cameroon, Europe and India formerly offered by Antioch Education Abroad. Carleton was fortunate to retain the excellent leadership of the programs' faculty directors. Carleton discontinued operation of the program in Cameroon following the Fall 2017 program because of concerns regarding student safety and well-being within the Anglophone region of Cameroon.
In May 2018, Carleton College reached an agreement with Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) to take over operation of ACM's study abroad program in Tanzania. Ecology and Anthropology in Tanzania will be offered as a Carleton Global Engagement Program in Fall 2020.
Global Engagement Programs are semester-length, offered annually, and open to students from undergraduate institutions across the United States and Canada. Students from 51 home institutions have participated in Global Engagement Programs in the past two years.
Carleton College, one of the nation’s top liberal arts colleges, has a long and deep commitment to off-campus study programs beginning with its first faculty led program in 1969. Through its Off-Campus Studies office, Carleton currently operates 16-18 faculty-led programs each year for its own students, along with three Carleton Global Engagement programs open to students from other colleges and universities.
