General Carleton College visitors section (with maps of campus and Northfield)

The Carleton College Department of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation would like to welcome you to our institution. The following is designed to help you plan your trip to Carleton. If you have a question that is not covered, please feel free to call us at (507) 222-4052 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday CT. At other times call (507) 222-4159; IF an emergency, call Security at (507) 222-4444.


WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARRIVE
A Carleton host will meet visiting teams. The host will direct you to the locker and training rooms as well as assist you with parking directions or with any other needs or questions you may have. Locker rooms will be available for visiting teams. Each team needs to provide their own towels and locks. We do not provide locker room security – please encourage athletes to be careful of valuables and money.

Football and Track teams will be met at our home field, Laird Stadium.

Soccer and Softball teams will dress at our new Recreation Center and play at our home field, Bell Field.

Baseball teams will be met at our new home field, Knights Field, located near our new Recreation Center on the north end of campus.

Tennis teams will be met at our home courts, Bell Field.

Volleyball and Basketball teams will be met at our home court, West Gym.

Swimming teams will be met at our home pool, Thorpe Pool, West Gym.

Directions to Carleton College
From the Twin Cities take Interstate 35 South to exit 69 (Northfield/Lonsdale). At the bottom of the exit turn left on highway 19 for seven miles. Turn left at the first stop light (junction of highway 3 and 19). Turn right at the second stop light (junction of 2nd street and highway 3) following the highway 19 East signage. Cross the river and come to a stop sign at the junction of Division and Highway 19.
To West Gymansium:
Turn left at the stop sign and progress 1/4 of a mile. The West Gym is on the left hand side just to the North of the football stadium. Parking is just beyond the West Gymnasium on the left hand side.
To Recreation Center
Progress past the West Gymnasium to Lyman Lakes. Cross bridge and turn right at next entrance road. Progress up the hill and park in lot adjacent to the Recreation Center.
To Knights Field
Take Recreation Center turn off Highway 19. Park in upper lot of Recreation Center; field is located just west of Recreation Center.
To Cowling and Bell Field:
At the stop sign (junction of Division and Highway 19) progress straight ahead up East Second Street hill. When you come to the next stop sign on Winona turn left. At First street (next stop sign) turn right heading east on first street. When you reach the end of first street angle left into the parking area adjacent to Cowling. Bell Field is at the base of the hill adjacent to Cowling.

TRAINING ROOM SERVICES
Carleton College Athletic Training Staff extends a warm welcome and the following services upon your visit. The main training room is located in the upper level of our new Rec Center; however, there are training rooms in the West Gym, Laird Stadium and Cowling Rec Center (Bell Field).

1. Please notify our training staff prior to the day of the contest if your team will be traveling without a trainer and will need special services. A Certified Athletic Trainer will be accessible while a well qualified student trainer will be present and available. A physician and/or medical emergency facilities are quickly accessible.

2. Therapeutic equipment is available upon request, all modality needs must be accompanied by written or verbal prescription. Generally you are asked to bring your own supplies. Water, ice and basics will be accessible.

3. Our Athletic Training Staff is headed by Ann Wieber-Yourg and Monica Dirksen (507) 222-4059. Team Doctor is Dr. Scott Koehler. Northfield Hospital is our local hospital.

SPORTS INFORMATION SERVICES
The Carleton College sports information office will provide visiting Football, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Swimming and Basketball with complete game statistics. We will report the results to major Minnesota print media outlets with the results of all events we host. Where appropriate, scores will also be called into the local television and radio outlets.

Visiting team sports information directors may request that Carleton phone in or FAX results and highlights to other media outlets. (Please call Carleton’s SID David Pape (507) 222-4185 with such requests.) We will FAX results to SIDs and media following tournaments and meets we host.

Numerical rosters will be provided as game program inserts. Visiting coaches and SIDs are welcome to use Carleton’s copy machine, FAX machine and phones to report results to their local media. Please contact Carleton’s coach or SID for assistance with long distance calling or FAXing.aaa

Carleton will provide a radio phone line for the Stadium and Event Arena press boxes. Radio stations should confirm this line’s availability at least one week in advance of the broadcast with Carleton’s SID, David Pape (507) 222-4185.
