About the Program
The men's track and field squad has been one of the most successful programs at Carleton, sporting three individual national titles. Since 2004, the Knights have seen 9 All-America performances and a total of 93 All-MIAC performances. The Knights produced 31 MIAC event titles over that same span.
Most recently, Jerry Cook-Gallardo ’18 won the 800- and 1000-meter runs at the 2015 and 2016 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2016 and finished fourth in the 800-meter run, earning All-America status.
Hart Hornor ’16 earned All-America recognition at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the 5000 and 10,000-meter runs.
In 2003, Matt Hooley ’04 placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and later that year Dan Bucy ’05 placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Steve Harris ’06 finished third in the 5,000-meter run at the 2006 NCAA indoor meet. Tom Ballinger '09 earned All-America honors for three straight years in the 400-meter hurdles. His best finish was a third-place showing at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Knights have scored points at the NCAA Championships 8 times at the national indoor meet and 25 times at the national outdoor meet (30th among all D-III programs). Carleton’s best finish at both championships is eighth place… Carleton hosted the NCAA Outdoor Championships three times (1984, 1988, and 1995).
