Men's Soccer vs. Crown College

Saturday, September 5th, 2015 – 3:30 pm at Northfield, Minn. - Bell Field

Quick Start Ignites Knights to Victory Over Crown

NORTHFIELD, Minn, — It only took one minute for the Carleton College men’s soccer team to grab the lead, and the Knights controlled the run of play in dispatching of Crown College by an 8-0 score.

Carleton scored four times in each period, with Danny Leal (Jr./Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) and John Fox (Sr./Duluth, Minn./Marshall) both finding the back of the net once in each half. This was Leal’s first multi-goal performance of his career, while Fox notched his first career goals.

John Imon Pedtke (Sr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), Reed Cammarota (Sr./Vero Beach, Fla./Neenah), and Alex Griese (Jr./Melbourne, Fla./Hun School of Princeton) accounted for the other goals scored by Carleton.

The first Carleton goal came 60 seconds into the contest. Peter Passalino (Jr./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) brought the ball up the right wing and sent a perfect cross to Leal charging in from the left side for a shot into the open shot.

The lead improved to 2-0 in the seventh minute when Crown was charged with an own goal under pressure from Pedtke, who scored a goal of his own—the first of the senior’s career—barely two minutes later.

Comfortably in front 3-0 after less than 10 minutes of action, the Knights maintained control of the match throughout, out-shooting the visitors by a 29-2 margin.

Fox broke into the scoring column in the 25th minute, dribbling to the right side of the box then tucking a shot inside the far post.

The next Carleton score came in the 50th minute when Cammarota headed home a corner kick delivery from Pedtke. Leal and Fox score in quick succession in the 54th and 55th minutes, and Griese closed the scoring with his 88th minute shot inside the near post.

This was the highest scoring output for Carleton since another 8-0 victory, this one at Northwestern (Minn.) on Oct. 16, 2012.

The Knights travel to Minneosta-Morris on Wednesday before returning home to face Grinnell College next Saturday, Sept. 5.
