NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Branden McGarrity (Jr./Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) tallied a first-half assist and added two second-half goals as the Carleton College men’s soccer team (2-2) pulled away from Rockford University, en route to a 5-1 non-conference victory.
“This was a great game for us,” said Carleton head coach Bob Carlson. “Coming off a tough road trip, it was good to get back in the win column and get everyone on the field.”
Kevin Doyle (So./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) got Carleton on the board only 69 seconds into the contest, as he headed home a volley from McGarrity.
Rockford knotted the score in the 34th minute as Adam Seiter scored on the counterattack, but Danny Leal (So./Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) pushed the hosts back in front, finishing a perfect cross from Will Schifeling (Sr./Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) shortly before halftime.
McGarrity took over shortly after halftime, scoring both of his goals five minutes apart, with the assists coming from Peter Passalino (So./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Kurt Heise (Jr./Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield), respectively. McGarrity now has 32 career goals, three behind Tim Wills ’12 school record.
Reed Cammarota (Jr./Neenah, Wis./Neenah) closed out the scoring with his long-range goal in the 83rd minute.
Carleton will be back on Bell Field this Wednesday, Sept. 10 for another non-conference tilt against College of St. Scholastica at 4 p.m.
