Student Voices: Student Career Assistant

January 15, 2018

My name is Sebastian, I am currently a senior Political Science/ IR major and a Cross-cultural Studies and Africana Studies minor. My current home is in Houston, TX, but I was born in Colombia and also lived in Spain and China. I like traveling, aviation, and interacting with individuals of various backgrounds. I am currently a Student Career Assistant at Carleton.

I became interested in this position at the end of my sophomore year because I really enjoy assisting and counseling my peers to help them achieve their goals. At the time that I became an SCA, I had just finished in my role as an OIIL Peer leader, and since I really enjoyed meeting with students and helping them solve their issues, I wanted to continue in a peer leader position and the Career Center seem to fit my personal and professional goals.

This is my second year as an SCA and I have really enjoyed not only being part of the team at the Career Center, but also being able to continue my passion of helping others achieve their goals. Although the SCA position has its challenges, including being current on the different positions and events, I nevertheless still find it really fun and exciting.
