  • Dean Livingston

This month, we say farewell to the Class of 2017 and shift our attention to the Class of 2021. Later this summer, I will provide an update on key initiatives/programs for the Division of Student Life.

In the meantime, I am pleased to announce that Sindy Fleming, currently director for the Center for Multicultural and International Engagement for St. Olaf College, has been named Assistant Dean of Students in the Dean of Students Office effective July 15, 2017.  In this new role, Sindy will provide centralized support for students on leave or taking a leave, and lead efforts to increase programmatic synergies between of the Office of Intercultural and International Life and the Gender and Sexuality Center.  Sindy will also collaborate with faculty and staff to provide an environment of dialogue in which students build on their critical thinking and leadership skills.

  • Carleton Peer Leaders

On Tuesday, May 16, the Peer Leader Committee hosted the annual Peer Leader Orientation to kick-off training for all incoming 2017-2018 peer leaders. Approximately 270 students attended the orientation, representing positions in the following offices: OIIL, GSC, Career Center, Residential Life, Office of the Chaplain, SAO, CCCE, TRIO, Academic Support Center, and the Office of Health Promotion.

  • Sarah Rechtzigel

When Sarah came to Carleton in the summer of 1996, she wasn’t much older than the students. She’d just gotten married and “wanted to get [her] foot in the door at Carleton,” so she took a 20-hour-a-week job at the Wellness Center (which became SHAC in 2011). While admitting to some concern about having summers off with that position, she notes she needn’t have worried as then-Associate Dean of Students “Hudlin Wagner  scooped me up and hired me full-time” in the Dean of Students office before that “summer off” ever came.

  • OAC

Out After Carleton (OAC) is a campus organization that mobilizes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Asexual and Allied (LGBTQA+) alumni, students, and friends of the College as a community to support Carleton's overall educational, admission, careers, and fundraising programs and objectives, especially as they relate to LGBTQA+ students, alumni, faculty, staff, and allied friends of the College.  The organization sponsored their Alumni-in-Residence Program, May 17-19, where an alum is invited back to campus to share their expertise and facilitate interactive discussions for LGBTQA+ students.

  • Honors Convo

Every spring, faculty, staff, and students gather in the chapel to celebrate many of the achievements of Carleton students from the past academic year. Honors Convocation, as this event is known, recognizes students admitted into national honors societies as well as those receiving international, national, college, departmental, and program awards and honors.

  • Ice Cream Treats

Division of Student Life enjoyed handing out ice cream to Seniors and their families as part of the Senior Week Celebrations.
